Car-mad Oldham lads restore a classic and boost local charities' funds

A team of car pros from across Oldham joined forces to breathe life back into an old classic car, which was then auctioned, with the money raised donated to three local charities.

The 1973 Reliant Scimitar 3.0 GTE was generously donated by Mark Dickinson. Family friend Richard Wild from Delete-a-Dent and his team set to work on restoring the classic to its former glory.

On hearing about the work in progress, and the good causes, Pro Fit Tyres in Oldham supplied and fitted four new tyres for free, before OTR Service and MOT Centre in Royton offered to carry out servicing the engine and brakes — again, for nothing.

Ultimately, the car was sold for £7,501, with the proceeds being split equally between The Ricky Casey Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

We must say a huge thank you to the Dickinson family for generously donating the vehicle, Pro Fit Tyres Northwest and OTR Service and MOT Centre.
