Be like Barney and book a blood donation

You might not carry the sickle-cell gene, but you might have a rare blood type to help those that do — just like this gentleman, Barney. His contribution is making a difference by giving blood.

Barney took the time to read one of our leaflets, and came to learn more about Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC), sharing with us that he has a rare blood type (Ro) which many sickle-cell patients have.

There is a huge gap and demand for Ro in hospitals and a small percentage of donors available, so people like Barney who are giving blood are playing such an important role in helping to improve and save the lives of those living with sickle cell, and patients battling RMC.

Raising awareness about RMC and the links to sickle cell is vital in helping bring about change in the UK.

Barney came away from our conversation with more knowledge, understanding the importance and impact he's having.

If you would like to give blood, please visit the NHS Blood Donor website at blood.co.uk.
